It all started so well...
… but unsurprisingly to anybody that knows me, it didn’t last. It’s been pretty hectic recently. I’ve finished college and am now on study leave, with 8 A level exams to look forward to in the next couple of weeks. I’ve had the leavers’ ball, birthday parties, and all manner of other distractions and as you might expect, the blog has been a little...

Brick, Ben Folds
I like Ben Folds. He’s someone I wish I’d got into earlier, because now I find myself faced by an intimidatingly huge amount of music and no idea where to start with it. There are a few bands/artists I feel like this about, so hopefully over the course of this blog I’ll get to know all of their music a little bit better. Off the top of my head:
Flaming Lips
Duke Special
...
Because Bowie is great and anyone who says...
You may have noticed that I like covers. I wanted to find something really new today, so I didn’t let myself post a cover for the main song, but here are a couple of rather fantastic Bowie covers I’ve stumbled upon over the last few days. Enjoy!
1. Of Montreal.
2. The Divine Comedy. My favourite of the two. I love Neil Hannon’s voice.
First Time High, Of Montreal
My friend Luke told me to listen to Of Montreal, and I did. This wasn’t one of the songs he recommended but it’s the one I like the most so far.
Glam Rock Cops, Jim Bob (Carter USM)
I’ve seen Jim Bob (twitter: @mrjimbob ) a couple of times as part of Robin Ince shows. I really like him. He also has a book out called Storage Stories. I haven’t read it yet, but have heard only good things, so check it out.
Also worth checking out the original non-acoustic version of this song by Carter USM (Jim Bob’s former band)
I'm Still Standing, Duke Special (cover)
This is an iplayer link I’m afraid, so make sure you listen before Thursday or it will be gone forever (unless someone puts it on youtube, which would mean we could continue to enjoy it [not that I would condone such illegel activities ;)]) so get a wriggle on! The song is at around 11 minutes. Enjoy!
EDIT : the iplayer link is no longer available, but you can still listen here :)

One more thing...
I am now well and truly up to date, and have discovered some lovely music in the process! Just one more thing before I go to bed though! I’ve decided to make a spotify playlist of all the songs I’m choosing, to make it easier to look back on them. Obviously, if you don’t have spotify this won’t be of much interest to you, but if you do, feel free to have a look. I’m...
Here Comes The Sun, Belle & Sebastian (cover)
More Belle & Sebastian. Obviously not a song I haven’t heard before, but definitely a version I haven’t heard before. This is what cover versions should be like. Beautiful.
This song makes me think of summer and sunshine, festivals and friends. I’m excited :D
Bubbles, Biffy Clyro
Have you ever heard people talking about a band for ages and ages and not bothered to see what all the fuss is about? Well, I suggest you have a listen and find out. I just did, and I liked what I heard a lot.
Another Sunny Day, Belle & Sebastian
I really like this song. Melancholy but beautiful.
I’m going to Latitude festival in July. My plan is to work my way through the line-up and decide who I like, that way I won’t miss anything great. I definitely won’t be missing Belle & Sebastian if I can help it :)
It's Different for Girls, Duke Special (cover)
Credit to Phil Jupitus for tweeting about this. I love Duke special’s voice & I love the piano. I like this a lot more than the original, but here it is in case you want to decide for yourself.
Mickey's Monkey, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
Something a little different. I like music that makes me feel happy when I listen to it. I like videos that make me feel happy when I watch them. This is therefore brilliant.
Today I intend to catch up on the days I’ve missed. I’m hoping this won’t become a weekly occurrence, but I think as long as I catch up, the idea of broadening my musical horizons isn’t lost, so...
Fuel Up, Stornoway
From the little I’ve heard, I really like Stornoway. Their debut album comes out in a couple of weeks and I am excited :)
Which Side Are You On, Billy Bragg
We have a Tory Prime Minister. I’m considering emigrating. In the mean time, while I make plans, I think I’ll probably just listen to a lot of Billy Bragg. (Credit to Ed for the song suggestion. Again.)
Ideology, Billy Bragg
Suggested by Ed. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go far wrong with Billy Bragg. This seems particularly appropriate at the moment. I was going to write a bit more, as I’m in the mood for a rant in the aftermath of the election, but it will have to wait as Derren Brown is on the TV. For now- just listen to the wisdom of Billy :)
Some songs
1. Cherbourg, Shine On.
I’m a sucker for a well-played violin
2. Fanfarlo, I’m a Pilot
… More violins :D
3. The Divine Comedy, Don’t Look Down
… did I mention that I like The Divine Comedy?
4. Laura Marling, Devil’s Spoke
Embedding is disabled for some reason so you’ll have to click over to youtube to listen. Worth it though- a...
This came sooner than I expected
Oh dear. The inevitable has happened. In my defence, I was busy watching the election on Thursday, and yesterday I went on a little trip to London to watch some nerdy comedy, and today… well today I just forgot. But tomorrow I will find 4 songs to make up for it, and they will all be brilliant.
The Best of Times, Sage Francis
A bit different from yesterday, but I like it. I’ve been meaning to listen to Sage Francis for a while; I’ve heard him mentioned in the same sentence as B Dolan & Le Sac Vs. Pip and in my experience that is always a good thing. He’s also a cofounder of this site. My friend Leanne mentioned him the other day, and I decided it was time to follow up on it. I’m glad...
Excuses, The Morning Benders
I love this song on so many levels. Josie Long tweeted about it today, and I fell in love with it as soon as I listened! I love this version especially- it feels like how music should be. Friends getting together, having fun, making great music- it’s brilliant.
Songs of Love
Hello, welcome to my shiny new blog :)
The story behind it: I love music but feel that I don’t listen to nearly enough of it. I have a horrible habit of finding an artist I like and listening to them on repeat for months and months, missing out on loads of great new stuff. So I’ve set myself a challenge! I will find at least one new song every day that I like enough to share on...
